Serve
faithful obedience at Ransom Church
At Ransom Church, we believe that serving is not just an action, but a reflection of Christ’s love working in us. Jesus Himself set the ultimate example: “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:28 NLT). His life and sacrifice were driven by love, and we are called to do the same.
One of our core values, serve free of self means that we embrace faithful obedience by serving wholeheartedly, putting others before ourselves with passion and practicality. Serving is not just about meeting needs—it’s about embodying God’s love in every act. As we serve, we are motivated by faithful obedience, which is always a by-product of love—love for God and love for others.
When we serve in this way, we experience true freedom and live out our calling with joy and obedience.
Where Has God Placed It on Your Heart to Serve?
As the church, we are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, both inside and outside our walls. Reflect for a moment—where has God placed it on your heart to serve? Maybe it’s within the church, helping support and grow our ministries, or perhaps it’s in the community, sharing God’s love in practical ways. Wherever it is, we want to help you find your place to serve based on the giftings and passions God has given you.
Love Yankton
At Ransom Church, we are committed to serving our community as one unified church body, demonstrating God’s love through impactful serve events that meet both immediate and long-term needs
Shoes 4 Shortiez.
One of our annual serve events is Shoes for Shortiez, a shoe giveaway event designed to bless families in Yankton. By providing new shoes to children in need for back to school, we raise their dignity and excitement, which helps improve their school attendance and connections. When kids feel excited and confident about learning, they’re more likely to thrive in school and in life. This event is a powerful way we serve as one church, spreading love and hope throughout our community.
Widow’s Doorstep.
The holiday season can be a time of joy, but for many widows in our community, it can also be a season of loneliness. At Ransom Church, we believe in serving free of self, putting others before ourselves with love and compassion. That’s why we come together between Thanksgiving and Christmas for Widows Doorstep, an opportunity to bring warmth, encouragement, and the love of Jesus to those who may be feeling forgotten.
Each year, we identify 5-8 widows in our community and visit their homes, delivering baskets filled with goodies, heartfelt cards, and small gifts. We sing half a Christmas carol (yes, just half!) and remind them that they are seen, loved, and never alone.
Aquatic Center.
We host Splash Night, a special event where we cover the cost for families to enjoy a night at the aquatic center on a summer day.
This event is more than just a fun night at the pool—it’s a way to bless families in our town and surrounding communities who might not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy an experience like this. Seeing the smiles, the laughter, and the joy of kids and parents alike makes it all worth it.
What’s even more amazing? The generosity it sparks! We’ve had families who weren’t even aware of the event donate on the spot, moved by the heart behind it. Splash Night is a simple way to share God’s love in a tangible way, showing that we see, value, and care for the families in our community.
Come dive in and be part of something bigger—where generosity, love, and a little bit of summer fun come together to make a lasting impact!
